Introduction
Enthusiasm means showing interest and excitement for what you are doing, even when it’s challenging. In the last lesson, we talked about optimistic thinking and how it supports resiliency. In this lesson, we’ll learn about fixed and growth mindsets:
- Individuals with a fixed mindset believe their talents and abilities are fixed, they remain the same.
- Individuals with a growth mindset believe they can always keep trying and grow.
Imagine you don’t get the grade you wanted to get on a test:
- How might you respond with a fixed mindset?
- How might you respond with a growth mindset?
-
Critical Thinking
Consider the following situation on your own: No matter what you do, you are struggle to get a good grade in one of your classes.
What do you do? Try to think of a few different things you could do (positive, negative, and neutral). What might the results of your actions be?
-
Collaboration
For a small group, each student presents their ideas to the whole class. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
For a larger group, divide students into small groups and have students present their ideas to the small group. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
-
Application
