Introduction
Values are basic ideas that reflect our principles, beliefs, and standards of behavior. Values help us decide what our actions will be for various situations. the worth or importance of people, concepts, or things.
How might your values help you achieve your goals?
What might be some ways to use your values this week? What might be the outcome?
-
Critical Thinking
Consider the following situation on your own: One of your teachers hands back an essay you worked really hard on, and your work is covered in notes from the teacher. Your teacher has a policy that you can re-write any essay for a higher score, but you have to meet with the teacher to go over the feedback. You feel overwhelmed by the comments on the page. You think it might be easiest to just take the lower grade and just try harder on the next essay.
What do you do to act from your values? Try to think of a few different things you could do (positive, negative, and neutral). What might the results of your actions be?
-
Collaboration
For a small group, each student presents their ideas to the whole class. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
For a larger group, divide students into small groups and have students present their ideas to the small group. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
