Introduction
Tact is the word that means that we are able to speak to someone appropriately and sensitively, without being rude or careless with their feelings. Using tactfulness helps stop us from offending others. Tact helps us show respect for others even when they have conflicting opinions.
Using tact is something that will benefit everyone and helps us to have a good relationship with other people. Practicing being tactful helps make using tact easier, especially in a difficult situation.
Why might tact be important to help you achieve your goals?
Why might you use tact this week? What might the results of your actions be?

Critical Thinking
Consider the following situation on your own: You have been assigned to work with a new student on your campus on a class project. You get along really well with her and enjoy working together. You go to her house to work on the project, and she invites you to stay for dinner. The conversation at dinner turns slightly political and you realize you and your family have very different political values that conflict with your new friend.
What do you do? Try to think of a few different things you could do (positive, negative, and neutral). What might the results of your actions be?
-
Collaboration
For a small group, each student presents their ideas to the whole class. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
For a larger group, divide students into small groups and have students present their ideas to the small group. Provide opportunity for positive feedback from peers or support if they are struggling to think of ideas.
